The Solitaire suite of games by MobilityWare is the chief revenue driver for the company. These games collectively have over 100 million players worldwide! Being tasked with working on Solitaire products was a challenge knowing so many eyes would be on it, including major stakeholders at the company.
MobilityWare's success comes from betting big on new platforms. When Apple announced that the new Apple TV would support apps, getting Solitaire on there was a priority. My job was to design the new icon as well as the 'top shelf' as seen below.
For the Solitiaire TV icon, we knew it had to share some of the same visual traits as the mobile app icon, such as the use of green felt, playing cards, the tableu, etc along with giving it a modern regal look. Below are some initial ideas.
FINAL CHOSEN DESIGN
And here's the final app icon. Everyone loved the gold logo treatment of the word Solitaire from some of the concepts above. I combined that with some other assets withing Solitaire, and Voila, we have the finished app icon!
APPLE TV TOP SHELF
An Apple TV 'top shelf' graphic is one of the requirements for Apple TV when submitting an app. Since it would be so prominent, I did my best to make it really pop and shine as well as use many elements from the associated app icon.
PUTTING ALL TOGETHER
When you add it all up, the Apple TV icon along with the Top Shelf graphic pair perfectly together. Bringing a sense of class and sophistication to the big screen.
Just like the Apple TV, Solitaire needed to be on the watch. Once again, I was tasked with creating a new yet familiar app icon for this small device that might blow up to be the next big thing.

SOLITAIRE TV AD : PHARMACY SPOOF
This was a lot of fun. When our marketing team was tasked with creating potential television spots for Solitaire. I jumped at the opportunity! I came up with the concept, wrote the script, picked the stock footage, edited and even picked voice talent. Below is a finished product which we ended up running on Facebook.
TRIPEAKS APP ICON
In 2015, TriPeaks Solitaire was going to be the newest member to the Solitaire family. It had been awhile since another addition had been made, and MobilityWare wanted to make sure we got an icon that showed it was a clearly a card game, yet also was attractive and well designed.
